September 2026 | Working at Heights — What WorkSafe's Latest Fines Mean For You |
||||||||
|
WorkSafe Victoria has put height safety firmly in the spotlight this month, with a string of enforcement outcomes and a targeted campaign aimed squarely at the solar sector. The message is consistent across every case: known risks, known controls, and no excuse for skipping them. We've also got news on our own front — we've just wrapped an emergency response course for workers from local heavy industry, Traffic Management is returning to Gippsland in October, and our full course suite remains ready to go for your team. WorkSafe Victoria: September 2026 UpdateWhat regulators are focused on right now WorkSafe Victoria has put the solar sector on notice, warning there's no excuse for putting workers at risk of deadly falls. But the enforcement pattern this month goes wider than solar — it's a reminder to every industry that height safety is being actively policed, not just written about.
WorkSafe Victoria — September 2026
Solar installer fined $100,000 over repeated falls risks. A Victorian solar installation company was convicted and fined $100,000 in the Ringwood Magistrates' Court after pleading guilty to 10 charges relating to unsafe rooftop work across four residential sites over a 10-month period. Workers were found on roofs at heights of up to 7 metres with no fall protection, an unsecured ladder, missing guardrails, and in one case a harness that wasn't attached to anything at all. The company was also penalised for failing to produce documents when WorkSafe investigated. It's exactly the kind of repeated, preventable shortcut that height safety training exists to close off. Working at Heights — Is Your Team Actually Covered?Three fines, one message: height safety is not optional None of the cases above involved a single catastrophic surprise. Each one was a known risk, with known controls, that simply weren't in place — a missing guardrail, an unsecured ladder, a harness clipped to nothing. WorkSafe's message this month is blunt: they're not waiting for someone to fall before they act. If your team works on roofs, platforms, scaffolds, or anywhere off the ground, RIIWHS204E Working at Heights gives them the training — and gives you the documentation — to show the right controls are understood and applied every time, not just when an inspector's on site.

Upskilling Emergency Respondersrescue training delivered at our training centre this month This month we ran an emergency response course at our training centre for a group of workers from a local heavy industry site, covering the range of skills needed for confined space and rescue work. It's exactly the kind of training that draws on the other side of our business — our dedicated confined space and heights rescue and standby crews. We run rescue standby on real high-risk jobs, working from our own rescue trailer to monitor atmospheric conditions and coordinate the site. That hands-on experience is what shapes our courses, so what we teach reflects what actually happens on the ground, not just the textbook version.
